Chisel: Stoic Focus · Last updated 6 October 2026
Chisel does not collect your personal data. There is no account, no sign-in, and nothing to opt out of. The rest of this page explains that in detail.
Everything you make in Chisel is stored on your iPhone and nowhere else:
None of it is sent to us, because there is nowhere for it to be sent.
So that your Stoa is not lost when you change or restore a phone, Chisel keeps a copy of your carved hours, finished statues and unlocked marbles in your own iCloud, using Apple's key-value storage. It works the way a note in the Notes app does: the copy belongs to your Apple Account, and we cannot see it, reach it or delete it.
If you turn on the Gate, Chisel asks for Screen Time permission and uses Apple's Family Controls framework to hold your chosen apps shut while a session is running. That permission is used for this and nothing else, and you can withdraw it at any time in iOS Settings.
Chisel cannot see which apps you chose. iOS hands it opaque tokens rather than names, and draws the names and icons itself inside its own views. Those tokens are stored only on your iPhone, in a container shared between Chisel and its own extensions, and they are never transmitted.
The panel you see instead of a shielded app is drawn on your device by a Chisel extension. The intention and the statue on it come from your own device; nothing is fetched to produce it.
Chisel also registers a schedule with Apple's Device Activity framework for the length of each session. Its only purpose is to lift the shield when the session ends, even if Chisel is no longer running. Chisel does not read device activity reports and keeps no record of which apps you open or how long you spend in them.
When you open a letter, Chisel downloads it from our server. The same letter is written once a week and sent to everyone, so the request carries no account, no identifier, and nothing about you or your carving.
The short personal note at the end of a letter is written on your device, from your own progress. It is never uploaded.
Our server runs on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare handles the network connection as any web host does and may keep limited technical logs, such as the IP address a request came from. We do not record who reads a letter, and we have no way to connect a request to a person.
Chisel Pro is sold through Apple. Payment is handled entirely by the App Store — we never see your card, your address, or your Apple Account. Chisel only learns whether a valid purchase exists, which is what unlocks Pro. Apple's own privacy policy governs that transaction.
The notice at the end of a session, the reminder before a free trial converts, and the Live Activity on your Lock Screen are all produced on your device. No push server is involved and nothing is sent anywhere.
The card you can share when a statue is finished is drawn on your device. It goes only where you send it, using the standard iOS share sheet.
Chisel is not directed at children, and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
If Chisel ever begins handling data differently, this page will be updated before that version ships, and the date at the top will change.
